Our Story
From a basement to a vibrant community centre
In 2011, Maalimah Zahra founded Umul-Qura Learning Centre in her basement. With a passion for teaching and Islamic knowledge, she started with a small group of students — addressing a significant gap in the Kitchener-Waterloo area by providing a dedicated space for Muslims to learn and grow.
What began as a grassroots initiative has now grown into a vibrant learning centre where education and spiritual growth go hand in hand. Today we serve children, youth, women, men, and families with a commitment to nurturing faith, knowledge, and character in a safe and inclusive space.
Our Mission
To provide authentic, accessible Islamic education and meaningful programs that strengthen faith, promote strong character, and build a sense of community rooted in mutual respect, love, and service. We aim to nurture the hearts and minds of our youth, support men and women in their spiritual journeys, and offer safe spaces where everyone can connect with their deen and with one another.
